Cut removes the selected item from its original location, transferring it elsewhere, whereas copy creates a duplicate of the item that remains in its original place.

Key Differences
When you cut a piece of text, image, or file, it is removed from its current location and placed on the clipboard, ready to be moved to a new location. In contrast, copying leaves the original content intact and places a duplicate on the clipboard.
Cutting is typically used when you want to move data from one place to another without leaving the original behind. On the other hand, copying is used when you need to duplicate data and use it in multiple places without altering the original.
After cutting, the original content is no longer visible in its initial location until it is pasted somewhere else. Whereas, after copying, the original content remains visible and unchanged.
The cut function is often represented by a pair of scissors icon in software applications, symbolizing the removal of the section. Conversely, the copy function is usually symbolized by two overlapping papers, indicating the duplication of data.
The availability of the cut option might be restricted in certain contexts (like some read-only files or certain software applications) because it alters the original content. However, the copy function is generally always available as it does not modify the original data.
