Hence vs. Henceforth — What's the Difference?

Hence is used to denote a consequence or result stemming from a given situation or point in time, suggesting a logical progression from past to present. Whereas, henceforth refers to a period extending from the current moment into the future, indicating that from this point, things will proceed in the manner stated.

Hence can also imply a physical distance from a point, though this usage is less common in modern English. It suggests a departure from a location or point in time, looking backward from the present. On the other hand, henceforth strictly pertains to time and does not convey spatial distance. It looks forward, marking a departure from past practices or states towards new ones.
